8th field study

Location: Sai Yee Street Garden
Date: 4th February, 2008 (Monday)
Time: 1620-1800

Observation:
The weather of today was cold, today was also near the Chinese Lunar New Year. No one was in the park, no one using the park’s facilities. There is also limited passerby pass thought the park. The park was quiet and empty.

Comment:
The result of this field study is it affected by the weather? Or by Chinese Lunar New Year? After I left the park, walked on the street, I noticed that many children were shopping with their mother. So the result may also affected by the coming festival.

But 4 secondary students were sitting inside the park, they were sitting on the slide. About 5 elder were sitting on the seat in the park. The secondary girls stayed in the park for about half an hour.

I couldn’t find children in the park this time, but I could find secondary students. For the elder, they were using the park’s facilities during the 6th and 7th field study.

6th field study

April 24, 2008

6th field study

Location: Nathan Road/ Boundary Street Sitting-out area
Date: 31 January, 2008 ( Thursday)
Time: 1420-1500

Observation:
Grandmother and a little child, they did their own things. Grandmother was talking on phone while the little child was playing in the park. The little children was playing with her own, she was throwing something such as rubbish she found on the park. She talked to herself. Before Children’s mother arrived, her grandmother was keep talking on phone and ignored the little children. On the other hand, some elder entered the park and sat in the park, watching the little children.

Comment:
During this field study, I can only found one children played in the park. In fact, she was playing with her own game with her own rule. So, is she really using the facilities to play in the park? Beside, why there is only one children played in the park? Where do the children go? Park seems became a area which only suitable for the elder.

4th field study

April 23, 2008

4th field study

Location: Sai Yee Street Garden
Date:30 January, 2008 (Wednesday)
Time: 1500-1630

Observation:
Today is rainy day, the floor of the park is wet. When I was doing field study in the park, the rain just stopped for a while. No one were sitting or playing in the park, especially children. Few people pasting by the park.

Comment:
This is really not a good time for doing field study in the park when the weather is bad. It is because it is not hard to notice that when it is a rainy day, the park will be empty without children playing inside the park. I was not shock by the result of this field study. But at least, I can prove that weather is a factor affects children’s behaviors of playing in the park.

In these two time slot, no one came to the park, including children, teenage and elderly. I could only see people passed by the park.

Comment:
Is the result affected by the cold weather?
As today is the weekend that before lunar new year,
is the result affected by the period of time?
Children are normal stay with their parent on Sunday?
The lifestyle of children changed?

Later on, a young lovers, they are secondary student as they are wearing school uniform, they were having argument, they stood in the corner for about 10 minutes.

Comment:
Or they no longer like to play in the park?
Game and play happen in other place?
Function of park changed?
The pattern of children’s daily life changed?
